Everyone loves ice cream.
This is the base recipe for a lot of different flavors. If you want chocolate, substitute it for the vanilla, if you want maple walnut.. just add maple syrup and walnuts.. maybe we bacon.. actually.. we can do that recipe next time
Pitter patter...
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1 cup whole milk
• 3/4 cup white sugar
• 1 vanilla pod (or 2 tbs instant coffee, 1/4 cup chocolate chips 1/3 cup cocoa powder for chocolate ice cream)
• 4 egg yolks
In a mason jar, and a pot of boiling water (double boiler) Heat milk and cream until 165-175°F for 20-30 mins stirring often..
Cream the sugar with the egg yolks, add the vanilla beans (or chocolate/coffee mix). Best until smooth.
Add a 1/2 cup of the milk-cream mixture to the eggs. Beat until smooth. Keep adding the mixture. Then add the mixture back to the mason jar and bring it back up to 165°F stirring often, for 15 more minutes. Remove from heat.. Let it cool..
Put the mason jar in the freezer for 2-3 hours.
Add it to your ice cream maker. And churn for 20-25 min. Then pour it into a container and put it back in the freezer.
Serve after 2-3 hours or overnight.
Cheers!
